New Delhi, the national capital of India, administered by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) bagged the seventh rank under the “cleanest cities” category in the annual cleanliness survey of the Centre.
The NDMC shifted itself two ranks up (from rank 9 to rank 7). The results were announced on Thursday.
In India, Indore and Surat were declared the “cleanest cities”. For the seventh time in a row, Indore bagged the cleanest city award. In the survey, Navi Mumbai retained the third position.
In the Swachh Survekshan 2023, the NDMC was awarded the All India Clean City seventh rank and adjudged the Cleanest City within Union Territory (in the more-than-a-lakh-population category).
“Proud moment! NDMC secured Rank 7 in All India Clean City category,” the New Delhi Municipal Council said in a post on X.
“NDMC also got 5 star garbage free city and the cleanest city within Union Territory in Swachh Survekshan 2023 award. Next year, NDMC will strive to be in top three city,” the Council added.
Chairman of NDMC Amit Yadav congratulated the employees, especially the “safai sevaks”.
For making Delhi the cleanest capital city within a Union Territory, the NDMC expressed gratitude to the residents and visitors to the area under its jurisdiction.
In the Swachh Survekshan Awards 2023, in the “best-performing states” category, Maharashtra bagged the leading spot. It was followed by Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
At an event held in New Delhi, President Droupadi Murmu gave away the awards to the winners. Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and others graced the award ceremony.
