Exciting news for Indore! The commencement of metro service operations is scheduled to begin next year. The exact date and time of the launch is not yet known. But it’s expected to start its service by February 2024. The Indore Metro is being maintained and operated by Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL).

Trial run of Indore Metro:-

At present, the MPMRCL will conduct a trial run of the metro train from Gandhi Nagar station to Super Corridor 3 metro station. This 5.9-kms-long stretch is a part of the Priority Section of the Yellow Line of the Phase 1 corridor.

The 31.54-kms-long Indore Metro Phase 1 project will have 29 stations. Of these 23 stations will be on elevated sections (24.06 km) and the remaining 6 stations will be underground.

The Yellow Line will link Indore railway station to Gandhi Nagar, passing through a total of 27 stations along the way. These are – Indore railway station, High Court, Palasia Square, Patrakar Colony, Bengali Square, Khajrana Square, Mumtaj Bag Colony, Radisson Square, Vijay Nagar Square, Meghdoot Garden, Bapat Square, Hira Nagar, Chandragupta Square, ISBT/MR10 Flyover, MR 10 Road, Bhawarsala Square, Super Corridor 1, Super Corridor 2, Super Corridor 3, Super Corridor 4, Super Corridor 5, Super Corridor 6, and Gandhi Nagar metro stations.

Foundation stone of Indore Metro Rail project:- 

The foundation stone for the Phase 1 of the Indore Metro Rail project was laid on September 14, 2019. The project has been built at an estimated cost of Rs 7500.80 crore. 

Significance of Indore Metro Rail project:- 

The Indore Metro Rail project will bring a huge change in the Indore city. It will prove to be beneficial for students, office-goers, businessmen, senior citizens etc. It will also emerge as the fastest mode of transportation in the city. This modern mode of transport will also bridge the gap between the rich and poor in the state’s commercial capital. Indore is one of the largest and most populous cities of the state.
