The land acquisition process for the Hyderabad Metro Rail project along the seven-and-a-half-kilometer MGBS-Chandrayangutta route in the Old City has gained significant momentum. This critical phase is progressing rapidly under the guidance of Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, ensuring the timely expansion of the metro network.
Progress in Property Acquisition
Hyderabad Airport Metro Ltd (HAML) Managing Director NVS Reddy has confirmed that the acquisition of the 1,100 identified affected properties is advancing at a brisk pace. Collaborating closely with Hyderabad District Collector Anudeep Durisetty, Reddy is overseeing the process to meet deadlines efficiently.
Out of the total properties, requisitions for 900 have already been submitted to the District Collector under the Land Acquisition Act. Preliminary notifications have been issued for 800 properties in phases, with 400 receiving preliminary declarations. Awards for compensation for 200 properties are expected to be finalised by the end of this month, ensuring a prompt start to demolition and construction activities.
To expedite the process, authorities have prioritised compensating property owners. Payments will be made immediately after the awards are finalised, facilitating smooth handovers of properties for demolition. Simultaneously, negotiations are being conducted with the affected property owners to address concerns and reach amicable solutions.
Protecting Religious and Historical Structures
The metro expansion in the Old City is being carried out with careful consideration of its rich cultural heritage. HAML Managing Director NVS Reddy assured that all religious and historical structures along the route are being safeguarded using advanced engineering solutions. This approach reflects a commitment to balancing development with cultural preservation.
The accelerated land acquisition process is set to pave the way for the timely construction of the metro rail route in the Old City. Once completed, this project will significantly improve connectivity in the area, integrating it into the broader Hyderabad Metro Rail network. The efforts of the Telangana government and HAML reflect a strong commitment to infrastructure development while respecting the city’s historical and cultural identity.
