In a bid to boost last-mile connectivity in Delhi, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will be adding over 1,100 e-autos to its fleet of electric three-wheelers, an official has revealed.

Out of 2,299 e-auto permits allotted to the DMRC by the Transport Department, 1,183 e-autos have been registered.

About 40 DMRC stations have these e-autos operating from them. The e-autos have charging points and dedicated parking spaces.

“Another 1,116 — 779 general and 337 women — e-autos are expected to be registered by the end of August,” the DMRC official said. The DMRC has distributed these e-auto permits to authorised operators stationed at metro stations in Chhatarpur, Dwarka, Rohini, and northwest Delhi. Vikas Kumar, Managing Director of DMRC, emphasised that facilitating last-mile connectivity for commuters remains a critical priority for the Delhi Metro.

Kumar also welcomed the bus service launched by the Delhi government to enhance last-mile connectivity.

On the matter of the e-auto service, Kumar said that given the size of buses, they may not be suitable for all metro stations. Meanwhile, e-autos are easily manoeuvrable, he added.

“We are partnering with companies who will provide the e-autos and operate them as per our requirements. These will run on our circuit to ensure last-mile connectivity,” he further said.
