In recent months, a series of controversial videos within Delhi Metro trains and premises has gone viral, prompting DMRC chief Vikas Kumar to make a public appeal. He urges people to refrain from engaging in “objectionable” activities and mentions ongoing efforts to curb such incidents.
In an interview with PTI, Kumar highlighted the implementation of surprise checks by designated squads. Despite challenges in ensuring constant security coverage, the DMRC is committed to minimizing objectionable activities.
Varied Instances of Misconduct
The misuse of the metro for seeking fame is exemplified by riders dancing to popular music inside train coaches or on platforms, often recorded by others. Instances of intimate moments captured and shared on social media platforms have also surfaced, sparking debates on public decency and individual freedom.
DMRC’s Security Measures
Managing Director Vikas Kumar emphasised that while security personnel cannot be omnipresent, squads conduct surprise checks to maintain order. He encourages passengers to report incidents to authorities, highlighting the responsibility of citizens in fostering a safe environment.
Tackling Public Outcry and Brand Image
Kumar addressed various instances where controversial videos have tarnished the otherwise impeccable image of the Delhi Metro. Despite occasional criticisms, he asserts that the brand’s excellence remains intact, and efforts are ongoing to discipline individuals and discourage such activities.
Awareness Campaigns and Norm Enforcement
The DMRC, through social media campaigns and outdoor publicity, aims to raise awareness about prohibited activities. Posters displayed at metro stations convey messages urging riders to avoid making reels that may inconvenience fellow passengers. Despite existing norms, the trend of controversial videos in the Delhi Metro persists.
