Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot on Wednesday (September 4) announced that the Rithala-Narela metro corridor will be extended to Kundli-Nathupur in Haryana.
The Delhi government has given preliminary approval for this extension and will soon submit the proposal to the Centre to advance it to the tendering stage.
Improving connectivity at Delhi-Haryana border
Gahlot detailed that the total length of the extended metro corridor will be 23.73 kilometers, with 2.72 kilometers of this stretch in Haryana.
“This extension will not only benefit the people of two villages (Kundli and Nathupur) but also all the people of the nearby villages,” Gahlot said.
He highlighted that the extension will improve connectivity between the rural areas of the Delhi-Haryana border and the city, where currently only buses serve as public transport.
With the new extension, commuters from these areas will be able to travel to central Delhi in approximately one and a half hours.
The Rithala-Narela-Nathupur corridor is part of the larger Delhi Metro Phase-4 project, which includes six corridors: Mukundpur (Majlis Park)-Maujpur, Aerocity-Tughlakabad, Janakpuri West-RK Ashram, Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block, Inderlok-Indraprastha and Rithala-Narela-Nathupur.
“This extension will benefit not just the residents of Kundli and Nathupur but also those in the surrounding villages,” Gahlot said.
Additionally, Gahlot expressed hope for the release of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who has been incarcerated since March in connection with an alleged excise policy scam. The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear Kejriwal’s bail pleas on Thursday.
