The construction work on two new Delhi Metro corridors is likely to commence by the end of this year, Indian Express reported citing officials. The new corridors come under Phase IV and run from Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block, and Indraprastha to Inderlok.
Together, they cover a total length of 20.70 kilometres, offering connectivity to several parts of South and Central Delhi.
Progress so far
The DMRC has expedited preliminary work on the corridors. For the alignment work, surveys and studies are being done to assess the routes, the connecting points and the statutory clearances required for the sections, has been completed, the officials told IE.
The officials added that at present, the DMRC is in the process of securing necessary statutory clearances from various departments, according to officials.
“DMRC is in the process of obtaining statutory clearances including land acquisition from the authorities concerned. Forest clearances and tree-cutting permissions are also being taken at appropriate levels,” a senior DMRC official said.
The officials also mentioned that planning and tendering for civil works are advancing.
“The entire work is going on at a very fast pace… the aim is to get clearances and start the construction soon, by the end of this year,” added an official.
Delhi Metro: Lajpat to Saket
The Lajpat Nagar to Saket G corridor will provide connectivity to Andrews Ganj, Greater Kailash 1, Chirag Dilli, Pushpa Bhawan, Pushp Vihar, Saket District Centre, and Saket G Block. It will have interchange facilities for Yellow, Magenta, Pink and Violet lines.
Delhi Metro: Indraprastha corridor
Meanwhile, the Indraprastha corridor will connect several key locations, including government offices (Delhi Secretariat), a railway station (Sarai Rohilla), and a major hospital (Lok Nayak), as well as areas such as New Delhi, Nabi Karim, Dilli Gate, Daya Basti, and Ajmal Khan Park.
This corridor will also be the first Delhi Metro line having frequent interchange stations. It will have 10 stations on a 12-kilometre stretch. Of this, interchange facility will be given at five stations – Blue Line (Delhi to Noida/Vaishali), Pink (Majlis Park to Maujpur), Magenta (Botanical Garden to Janakpuri), Yellow (Gurgaon to Samaypur Badli), and Red (Rithala to Ghaziabad New Bus Adda).
