The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Monday achieved a new milestone, recording its highest-ever single-day passenger journeys with 78.67 lakh trips. The previous record was set on August 20 this year, with 77.48 lakh journeys, surpassing the February 13 figure of 71.09 lakh.
DMRC officials noted that the increase in Metro ridership is expected to lead to a reduction in vehicular emissions, thereby improving air quality in the region.
To meet the rising demand, DMRC has introduced 60 additional trips on weekdays, boosting its capacity and encouraging more commuters to choose the Metro over private vehicles.
The passenger journey breakdown by line on Monday is as follows:
– Red Line: 8,56,692
– Yellow Line: 20,99,097
– Blue Line: 20,80,221
– Green Line: 4,12,935
– Violet Line: 7,93,324
– Pink Line: 8,15,223
– Magenta Line: 6,19,711
– Grey Line: 50,128

DMRC has launched several initiatives to improve passenger convenience. Digital platforms now enable passengers to book single or multiple journey tickets online, eliminating the need to stand in line at stations. Additionally, DMRC has partnered with organizations like Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), and India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) to provide seamless interconnectivity and offer new travel options, including QR code-based tickets.
