The construction of New Ashok Nagar station, one of the four stations in the Delhi section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transport System (RRTS), is nearing its final stages. Officials have confirmed the completion of track-laying work and are now adding final touches to the station. Once completed, it will be the first RRTS facility in the Delhi section to be finished.
However, the construction of three foot overbridges (FOBs), connecting this RRTS station with New Ashok Nagar metro station and surrounding areas, is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The New Ashok Nagar RRTS station stands at approximately 22 meters in height.
“The construction of New Ashok Nagar station is nearing completion,” the The Times of India quoted an official from the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), responsible for executing the project. “Tracks have been laid, the roof has been constructed, and final touches are being made to complete minor works,” the official added.
Trial runs expected in last quarter of the year
The official further mentioned that trial runs on the 12km stretch between Sahibabad and Anand Vihar, including New Ashok Nagar RRTS stations in Delhi, could commence by the last quarter of the year.
Ahead of the trial runs, the New Ashok Nagar RRTS station will be equipped with three foot overbridges, all of which will be completed in advance. Given the proximity of the New Ashok Nagar metro station on the Blue Line, just 100 meters away, NCRTC plans to install a 100-meter-long and 6-meter-wide foot overbridge to link both facilities. The height of this foot overbridge will measure approximately 8 meters.
“The FOB will connect the concourse level of the metro station to the floor below the concourse level of the RRTS station. The area between the ticket gate of the metro station and below the concourse level of the RRTS station where the FOB is connecting will be a non-paid area,” said an official.
New Ashok Nagar RRTS stations to get two more foot overbridges
The TOI report also revealed that, in a bid to enhance connectivity and accessibility to the station, two additional foot overbridges (FOBs) are under construction. One FOB, measuring 41 meters in length and 6.5 meters in width, will link the RRTS station to the surrounding areas of Chilla village and Mayur Vihar Extension.
On the opposite side, a second FOB, spanning 49 meters in length and 8 meters in width, will be erected near the ancient Shiv temple, facilitating easier access for residents of New Ashok Nagar.
“The construction of Anand Vihar RRTS station is also in the advanced stage,” said an official.
Sarai Kale Khan RRTS station
Additionally, the construction work is also progressing at Sarai Kale Khan station. However, the development of the fourth station in Delhi, Jangpura, will occur at a later stage as it is being integrated with a stabling yard.
The corridor spans a total of 82 kilometers, with a 14-kilometer segment in Delhi and the remaining 68 kilometers in Uttar Pradesh. Currently, a 34-kilometer section between Sahibabad and Modi Nagar North, comprising eight stations, is operational. Additionally, an 8-kilometer stretch from Modinagar to Meerut South is set to open soon. It is anticipated that the entire corridor will be completed by the following year.
