The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) remains a reliable, effective, and dependable choice for the residents of Tamil Nadu’s capital. In October, the CMRL experienced steady growth in passenger traffic, with a total of 85,50,030 passengers travelling across all its corridors. This milestone has now pushed the count of metro passengers to 7,51,67,277 this year so far.
A look at the ridership details from January-September 2023:-
In January, 66,07,458 have travelled on the metro trains followed by 63,69,282 in February; 69,99,341 in March; 66,85,432 in April; 72,68,007 in May; 74,06,876 in June, 82,53,692 in July; 85,89,977 in August; and 84,37,182 in September.
Highest passenger flow in October’ 2023:-
Last month, the CMRL recorded the highest number of passengers on October 20, 2023. A total of 3,60,743 passengers have boarded the city’s rapid transit system.

In the previous month, a total of 42,16,831 have used CMRL Travel Card, followed by Online QR – 207097, Static QR – 96913, Paper QR – 2552323, Paytm – 353003, WhatsApp – 210819, Token – 251955, Group Ticketing – 7928, NCMC Singara Chennai Card – 6,53,161.
CMRL offers discounts on ticketing
The Chennai Metro Rail Limited is offering a 20 percent discount on all ticketing i.e. Metro Travel Card, Mobile QR Code ticketing – Single, Return, Group Tickets and Q.R Trip passes, Whatsapp and Paytm.
Little Mount Metro Station’s car parking area to remain shut
The car parking area near Chennai’s Little Mount Metro Station will remain temporarily closed for two months due to renovations. The CMRL has urged commuters to use nearby metro stations for parking of vehicles during this time.
