Bhopal has taken its first big step into metro connectivity with the launch of the city’s first metro corridor. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who shared the post on X, hailed the move as a “new journey of development at the speed of the metro train”, while extending greetings to residents on the metro launch.

“Congratulations to all on a new chapter being added in the development of the capital Bhopal. Today, in the program organized at Kushabhau Thakre Convention Center, Bhopal, with the honorable Union Minister Shri ML Khattar ji, the “Metro Train” was inaugurated through a single click,” CM Yadav posted on X.

The video highlights the launch of the Orange Line priority corridor, the first phase of which has been started at a cost of Rs 2,250 crore. The priority stretch spans roughly a 7 km corridor with eight stations-Shubhash Nagar, AIIMS, DRM Office, MP Nagar, Rani Kamlapati Station, Kendriya Vidyalaya and Board Office Chauraha, positioning the route as a major link between major areas.

Bhopal Metro to lessen traffic and make the city cleaner

The metro will upgrade daily travel and is expected to provide faster and safer journeys, help in reducing traffic, save time and lower pollution levels, leading to a clearer city. The metro is expected to give a boost to trade, investment and real estate, while making commuting easier for all.

Bhopal Metro amenities

The Bhopal Metro is inclusive of smart lighting, smart display systems, air-conditioned coaches, AI CCTV and other advanced activities.

The official inauguration event was conducted at the Kushabhau Thakre International Convention Centre (Minto Hall) in the presence of CM Mohan Yadav and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. The first metro station was flagged off from Subhash Nagar, and the inaugural ride was scheduled upto AIIMS.

As per an IANS report, commercial operations for the public will commence from Sunday, December 21, with services available from 9 am to 7 pm, offering a total of 17 trips daily. Fares will start at Rs 10 (1-2 stations), and will increase to Rs 40 (6-8 stations). Phase 1 includes two corridors spreading roughly 28-31 km with the Orange Line planned from AIIMS to Karomd and a Blue Line corridor, with an approximate total cost of over Rs 10,000 crore.
