The death of industrialist Sunjay Kapur earlier this year has sparked a high-stakes battle over his Rs 30,000 crore estate. Matters reached the Delhi High Court on Wednesday with ex-wife Karisma Kapoor alleging that the will was forged to give exclusive control of his assets to Priya Kapur. The civil suit was filed on behalf of their children — Samaira Kapur and and Kiaan Raj Kapur — and highlighted several worrying details. Meanwhile Priya (the wife of Sunjay Kapur) claimed that the siblings had already been given Rs 1,900 crore from the family trust.

Priya informed Justice Jyoti Singh that the two children had already received Rs 1,900 crore from the family trust and asked “what more do they want”? Her counse also submitted that though the will was not registered, it wasn’t “invalid” and added, “Not as if people are left on streets.” The submissions were made in response to the judge’s query whether the will was registered.

What are the allegations levelled by Karisma Kapoor

The children, represented through their mother Karisma Kapoor, have alleged that Priya Kapur forged Sunjay Kapur’s will to claim exclusive control of his assets. Senior Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, for the children, argued that the will is unregistered, was never disclosed earlier, and was read “in haste” at the Taj Hotel. He further pointed to suspicious circumstances, noting that the executor admitted learning of the will only a day before and that its disclosure came from a family employee.

What does Rani Kapur say?

Rani Kapur has also challenged the will — saying there was nothing left to her and calling the entire process “unholy”. Lawyer Vaibhav Gaggar added that Rani had sent at least 15 emails asking for information about the will but failed to receive any response. She has however distanced herself from the latest clash — insisting that this was primarily between Karisma Kapoor and Priya Sachdeva. Gaggar added that the mother of the late industrialist had been named a defendant in the case due to her being a class 1 heir to his assets. He reiterated that Rani Kapur had already made her stance clear and would soon file a response.
