Capgemini announced on Wednesday that Sanjay Chalke will take over as chief executive officer of Capgemini in India from January 1, 2026. He succeeds Ashwin Yardi, who will retire from his role after seven years at the helm and move into a new position as non-executive chairman of the company’s India board.
The change marks the end of a significant tenure for Yardi, who has been with Capgemini for three decades and has led its India operations since 2018, the company said in a statement announcing the leadership transition. As non-executive chairman, he will continue to nurture stakeholder relationships and support Chalke during the transition, it added.
Chalke’s experience and strategic focus
Chalke, currently chief operating officer of Capgemini in India, will join the group executive committee upon assuming his new role. With more than two decades of leadership experience, he has spearheaded transformation programmes around operational excellence, talent acquisition, delivery assurance and cross-unit synergies. Before becoming COO, Chalke headed Sogeti India within Capgemini and held global leadership roles at DXC Technologies, where he led its SAP business.
“I am deeply grateful for his outstanding contributions throughout his 30-year career within the Group. I am equally delighted to welcome Sanjay Chalke as the new CEO of Capgemini in India. Under his leadership, we look forward to accelerating our growth even further, deepening our impact, and continuing to strengthen India as a center for innovation, technology and transformation,” Aiman Ezzat, CEO, Capgemini said.
Yardi’s legacy and India’s growth as a strategic hub
Under Yardi’s leadership, Capgemini in India grew its headcount from 105,500 to nearly 180,000, reinforcing its position as a strategic hub for the French IT services group. He previously served as COO of Capgemini in India, managing delivery and capability development, and has worked closely with Fortune 500 companies on business transformation.
