The Rajasthan government is planning a greenfield township to house data centres that can meet growing needs of artificial intelligence applications, commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal said on Monday.
The site for the proposed township is being scouted for in the vicinity of the Delhi-Mumbai Express and can have the benefit of connectivity to the important commercial centres and the Delhi or Jaipur airport.
With an installed renewables capacity of 29.98 GW, Rajasthan can become a preferred destination for data centres.
“A lot of solar energy capacity is coming up in Rajasthan. Ample land is available for solar plants. Data centres all over the world are hungry for green energy sources or sustainability… If the city can be run on renewables, it will be attractive for the whole world. Companies like Nvidia and IBM will welcome it,” Goyal said at a session on AI at the Rising Rajasthan investment summit.
“Rajasthan has all the attractions like sustainability. Linking it with green data centres, we can make a global AI hub in Rajasthan,” Goyal said. Rajasthan already has the Bhamashah data centre in Jaipur.
