State-owned power transmission company Power Grid Corporation of India on Wednesday registered a fall of 2.5% in its consolidated net profit for the first quarter of the financial year 2025-26 at Rs 3,630.58 crore from Rs 3,723.92 crore in Q1FY25. On a sequential basis, the net profit declined by 12.3% from Rs 4,142.87 crore.

Revenue

The company’s revenue from operations for the quarter under review stood at Rs 11,196.22 crore, marking a rise of 1.7% from the corresponding period of last year. Total income too rose by 1.4% at Rs 11,444.42 crore.

The company’s transmission segment recorded revenue of Rs 10,694.66 crore in the quarter under review, marginally down from Rs 10,727.97 crore in the corresponding period of last fiscal. Revenue from the consultancy division more on the other hand rose significantly by 120% to Rs 405.92 crore in Q1FY26 from Rs 184.21 crore in Q1FY25.

The telecom segment also registered growth in revenue to Rs 289.49 crore, up from Rs 245.84 crore in the year-ago period.The company has further decided to increase its borrowing limit  for the financial year 2025-26 from Rs 16,000 crore to Rs 25,000 crore, from various sources including domestic bonds through issue of secured / unsecured, non-convertible, cumulative / non-cumulative, redeemable, taxable / tax-free Debentures / Bonds under Private Placement.

FY 26-27

For the next financial year 2026-27, the company has decided to raise funds up to Rs 30,000 crore, from various sources in one or more tranches or offers.The Board of the company has also accorded in-principle approval for participation of PowerGrid in up to two tariff based competitive bidding projects with an aggregate total estimated project cost of about Rs 500 crore through consortium of POWERGRID as the Lead Partner and POWERGRID Infrastructure Investment Trust (PGInvIT) as the Other Partner.

The Board also gave an in-principle approval for formation of Joint Venture Company in India between Power Grid and Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) with 51% and 49% equity participation respectively for implementation of Indian portion of 400 kV D/C Inaruwa (Nepal) – New Purnea (India) and 400 kV D/C Lamki (Dododhara) (Nepal) – Bareilly (India) Transmission interconnections between India and Nepal.
