Eternal on Thursday launched an electric rental bike fleet in Delhi NCR, allowing its riders to rent these vehicles for delivering the food orders. In an announcement, the company said it will initially ensure the availability of these EV bikes for rent in the Delhi-NCR region but will soon expand the initiative to other parts of the country.
The company had earlier announced its plans to have a 100% EV fleet by 2030 and achieving net zero emissions across its food ordering and delivery value chain by 2033. Currently, around 10% of Zomato’s delivery force uses electric vehicles.
Eternal said that these partners have contributed to avoiding approximately 4,900 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions, which equates to the environmental impact of planting an estimated 220,000 trees in FY25.
In the first phase, the company has intoduced 300 EV bikes in Delhi NCR. “Through the launch of these specially designed, efficient electric bikes on rent, we’re ensuring delivery partners can thrive while contributing to building a greener tomorrow,” said Anjalli Ravi Kumar, Chief Sustainability Officer, Eternal.
“Among the various pollution mitigation steps taken in Delhi, it is imperative that industries take the extra measures to adopt sustainability. It is heartening to see Zomato take this step to provide delivery partners with access to efficient and affordable EVs on rent,” said Ajay Chaudhary, IPS, Special Commissioner of Police, Traffic Management Division (Zone II), Delhi Police who inaugrated the fleet.
Earlier this year, at an event in Delhi, Eternal’s rival Swiggy also announced its plans to transition its entire delivery fleet to electric vehicles by 2030.
