The total employee headcount of Wipro in the third quarter fell by 4,473 to reach 240,234. In the September quarter, the company had a total employee headcount of 244,707. This is the fifth quarter in a row where the IT major saw its total headcount falling sequentially.
Over a period of 12 months, Wipro lost 21,875 employees as the IT industry faced an increasingly uncertain macro environment and clients delayed their decisions on tech spends.
The company saw its utilisation rate falling to 84% in the Q3 of FY24, slightly below 84.5% in Q2. The company attributed this to the seasonally higher furlough that the IT sector generally face in Q3. The attrition rate fell to 14.2% in the just concluded quarter, from 15.5% in the September quarter.
On senior leaders exiting and joining rivals, Thierry Delaporte, CEO and MD, Wipro, said, the company has a strong pipeline of leadership and during transformation like at Wipro , there would definitely be crunch at the leadership level.
Speaking about his succession, Delaporte said this is his responsibility that the company is building a proper succession planning for not just his role but all leadership roles and this is what he has been focussing on over the years.
On questions about former CFO Jatin Dalal and whether Wipro is putting a deterrence for others, Saurabh Govil, chief human resources Officer at Wipro, said, “When all of us join any company, we all have some contractual obligations….. We are not against any individual or anyone’s career. It is all about complying with obligations. This particular case is subjudice and we will not comment more on it.”
