Ecommerce in India – online sales: Amazon Great Indian Festival, Flipkart Big Billion Days, Snapdeal Unbox Diwali sales have seen the price competition getting intense amongst them during the ongoing Diwali festive sales. The most popular category for customers in India is the mobile phone category in online shopping and here Flipkart is leading, having maintained the lowest median price for popular non-exclusive mobiles on October 2 and October 3.
RedSeer Consulting, in its report ‘E-Tailer Pricing Study’, the research and advisory firm reveals that Flipkart had the lowest median prices across popular non-exclusive mobile stock-keeping unit (SKUs), beating Amazon and Snapdeal on both days.

But Flipkart itself is beaten when it comes to consumer electronics and large appliances. Amazon emerges the clear winner here as it had the lowest median prices of listed SKUs on October 3. On October 2 however, it was Flipkart that had the lowest in these segments. For Snapdeal, during the electronics sale, prices were lower on October 2, but prices were back to normal on the October.

“E-tailers naturally compete very aggressively on pricing during this festive sales period to drive up GMV. This is especially important in categories like mobiles and other electronics which comprised close to 75% of e-tailers GMV during the festive sale days of 2015,” Anil Kumar, CEO, RedSeer Consulting.

Unfortunately, for the consumers, the median prices of non-exclusive mobiles on Amazon, Snapdeal and Flipkart gradually fell from October 2 to October 3 – the platforms were running offers on Electronics, specifically mobiles on October 3.

For most eretailers, even though exclusive mobile phones contribute a majority of the sales for all the three platforms, E-tailers focus on keeping competitive pricing for non-exclusives mobile phones too, especially while the festive sale days are going on as this strategy increases sales volume of non-exclusives too.
