Online taxi hailing firm Ola will offer medical insurance of  Rs 200,000 for drivers and their family, which will cover hospitalisation and other major medical expenses.

“Ola’s driver partners are key stakeholders in the eco-system and their well being is essential to realise our mission of mobility for a billion Indians. Using Ola’s technology, they have helped impact the lives of millions of customers for their mobility needs. We are committed to the financial and personal well-being of driver partners who work with us and this initiative is a step in that direction,” said Pranay Jivrajka, chief operating officer, Ola.

Along with the insurance, the company will offer free health check-ups every quarter. The company says these programmes have started in Hyderabad and Mumbai with around 1,000 driver families served. The programme will be rolled out in phases in cities like  Bangalore, Delhi, Kolkata, Pune and Chennai. In 2014, Ola had set aside a fund of Rs 100 crore towards investment in the driver ecosystem.
