The Ministry of Coal  is set to launch the 13th round of commercial coal mine auctions today, on August 21 in New Delhi. The auction aims to speed up coal production and ensure a steady supply to meet India’s growing energy needs.

“This event will mark another significant step towards enhancing transparency, competition, and self-reliance in India’s coal sector,” it said. The 13th round will also continue with liberal terms to promote ease of doing business and attract investment.

Fully and partially explored mines on offer

The upcoming round will offer a fresh set of coal mines, including both fully explored and partially explored blocks. The ministry expects interest from experienced miners, new entrants and technology-driven enterprises. It will also highlight opportunities in underground and surface coal gasification.

Development pacts to be signed for 11 coal mines

During the event, the Coal Mine Development and Production Agreements (CMDPA) will be signed for 11 mines that were successfully allocated in earlier rounds of auction.

Since its launch in 2020, the commercial coal mine auction process has drawn strong participation from established companies as well as new players.

Union Minister of Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy will attend the event as the Chief Guest, while Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey will be the Guest of Honour.
