Jaguar and Land Rover plans to double its market share in the next two to three years and is focusing more on expanding dealerships in the tier 1 and tier 2 cities to increase its volumes in the domestic market.

At present, the company has 9% market share in the domestic market, has 22 dealers and is ranked fourth behind the three German luxury car manufacturers (Mercedes Benz, Audi and BMW).

The company launched its premium SUV discovery sport in India on Wednesday at a price of Rs 46.1 lakh ex showroom Mumbai. This vehicle will replace the Freelander (a sports utility vehicle) and will be manufactured at the Chakhan manufacturing capacity in Pune.

The new Discovery Sport will be equipped with 2.2L four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engines, available in 140 kW SD4 and 110 kW TD4 derivatives. JLR claims Discovery to be the first thorough bread SUV which comes with a seven seater option and four wheel drive known to be trade mark of the company’s products.

Rohit Suri, president, Jaguar and Land Rover, India said that the Discovery sport has been well received in the all the countries in which it has been launched and the company expects that India will not be an exception.
