Reliance Industries subsidiary Jio Platforms (JPL) on Friday posted a 1.25% rise in its net profit during the June quarter on the back of sequential rise in average revenue per user (Arpu) and uptick in data consumption.
JPL’s consolidated net profit in Q1 rose to Rs 7, 110 crore from Rs 7,022 crore in the January-March period and Rs 5,698 crore in the first quarter of the previous fiscal, the company said.
The revenue rose 3.08% to Rs 35,032 crore from Rs 33, 986 crore in the preceding quarter, driven by strong subscriber growth momentum across mobility and homes, increased customer engagement and growth in digital services business.
JPL’s Ebitda rose 6.58% on quarter at Rs 18, 135 crore from Rs 17, 016 crore in Q4FY25 on account of strong revenue growth, and strong margin improvement. Ebitda margin at 51.8% was up 170 basis points sequentially, and up 210 bps year on year.
The firm’s revenue came in slightly behind analyst forecast of Rs 31, 000– 31, 200 crore. PAT and Ebitda also missed analyst estimates.
Subscriber growth, 5G adoption drive performance
Reliance Jio Infocomm, the telecom arm of RIL which commands the lion’s share of JPL’s financials, saw its PAT jump 1% q-o-q to Rs 6, 711 crore. Its revenue for the quarter grew 2.9% sequentially to Rs 30, 882 crore, and earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) was 3.1% higher at Rs 16, 690 crore.
“We have delivered a milestone quarter at Jio with our 5G and home subscriber base crossing the 200 million and 20 million marks respectively. Jio continues to bring next generation services for its users with the launch of JioGames Cloud and JioPC bundle at affordable prices to drive adoption of digital services in India,” Akash Ambani, chairman, Reliance Jio Infocomm said.
Jio added 9.9 million users in the June quarter taking its total subscriber base to 498.1 million.
Arpu, a crucial performance indicator for the telcos, improved to Rs 208.8 from Rs 206.2 in the fourth quarter of FY25, in line with Street estimates, benefitting from a better subscriber mix.
Jio’s 5G subscriber base breached the 200-million mark to end the quarter with 213 million (42.76% of overall subscriber base), adding 20 million in Q1. JioAirFiber userbase was 7.4 million homes, which the firm claims is the largest globally. It has also crossed a total of 20 million connected premises with fixed broadband, with 2.6 million net additions in the quarter.
Data surge boosts metrics amid IPL, FWA expansion
The per capita data usage rose to 37 GB per month as compared to 33.6 GB per month in the previous quarter likely because of an uptick in 5G userbase, FWA base expansion, and digital consumption of the Indian Premier League.
“Our digital services business consolidated its market position with a robust financial and operational performance. Through its differentiated offerings across mobility, broadband, enterprise connectivity, cloud and smart homes, Jio has positioned itself as the technology partner of choice for Indian consumers,” Mukesh Ambani, chairman and managing director, Reliance Industries, the parent company of JPL said.
The total wireless data consumption rose to 54.7 billion GB in Q1FY26 as compared to 48.9 billion GB in Q4FY25.
