The total coal production in the country rose by 18.6% to 78.65 million tonne in the month of October from 66.32 MT in the corresponding month last year, according to data from the ministry of coal.
During the period April to October, the production shot up by 13% to 507.02 MT, significantly up from 448.49 MT in the first seven months of the last fiscal, the data showed.
Of the total production last month, Coal India Ltd produced 61.07 MT compared with 52.94 MT in October last fiscal, registering an increase of 15.4%.
NTPC Ltd, on the other hand, reported a substantial increase of 86% in its coal production till October at 19.12 MT as compared to 10.28 MT till October 2022 last financial year.
Additionally, coal dispatches too reached a level of 79.30 MT in the month of October, a growth of 18% from 67.13 MT in the same period last year. The cumulative coal dispatches up to October since the start of the current financial year jumped 12% to 541.73 MT from 483.78 MT in the same period a year ago.
CIL dispatched 61.65 MT in October, up 15% from 53.69 in October 2022, the ministry said.
NTPC, on the other hand, dispatched 20.22 MT of coal to power plants till October marking a rise of 94% from last year.
As of November 2, coal stock in almost 83 power plants were at a critical position, as per the data from Central Electricity Authority. Total coal stocks in the country were at 20.98 milllion tonnes as of November 2, whereas stocks with India’s domestic coal-based power plants were at 18.91 MT.
NTPC Ltd, India’s one of the largest thermal power generating company, has coal stocks at 6.49 million tonne as against the normal stock requirement of 14.47 million tonne as on November 2, the data showed.
