In another big step towards the use of renewable sources for the power needs of the country, the Adani group, in Kamuthy of Tamil Nadu, had constructed the world’s largest solar power plant across an area of ten square kilometres. Located at a city, well known for its temples and greenery, the solar power plant, about 90 kilometres outside Madurai, has the capacity of 648 MW, which can supply power to at least 1,50,000 homes.
Most interestingly, the solar power plant costing about $679 million for construction, was built up in just eight months, while the largest solar farm till now, Topaz Solar Farm in California, took more than two years for completion and has a cappacity of 550 MW.

Amid reports from the National Geographic, suggesting India’s dependence on mostly coal for power, Adani Group’s new Solar power plant at Tamil Nadu, indicates the country’s desperate attempts to move-away to renewable sources of energy.
Earlier, pledging big plans on the use of renewable energies for the power-need of the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched a solar alliance with more than 120 countries, at the Paris COP21 climate summit, last year.
