Gameskraft on Thursday said it is laying off 120 employees across teams and functions as part of a company-wide restructuring.

The Bengaluru-based gaming firm said the layoffs were driven by the implementation of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, which has effectively banned real money gaming operations across India.

“Despite our best efforts, the current regulatory landscape has made us completely stop our business and has left us with no choice but to initiate a company-wide restructuring,” the company said in a note to employees.

CEO Prithvi Singh on layoffs

Founder and CEO Prithvi Singh called it “one of the most difficult” decisions in the company’s journey. “Every single Krafter has played a meaningful role in shaping who we are, and we are deeply grateful for their contributions, passion, and belief in our mission,” he said, emphasising that the decision “in no way reflects on their talent or dedication”.

Affected employees will receive severance pay, leave encashment, and extended group health insurance until March 2026, with an option to convert policies to individual plans. The company will also provide wellness services to affected employees until May 2026, priority consideration for rehiring if new opportunities emerge, and outplacement support including referrals and recommendation letters from HR and managers, it added in a statement.

Downsizing continues across India’s gaming sector

The layoffs at Gameskraft are part of a broader wave of downsizing across India’s gaming sector following the ban. Mobile Premier League (MPL) is reportedly reducing its workforce by up to 60%. Games24x7 is said to be laying off 70% of its staff. A23 Rummy operator Head Digital Works has cut 500 jobs, while Zupee eliminated 170 positions, and Baazi Games has trimmed headcount by 200 employees.

Founded in 2017, Gameskraft became popular for operating real money gaming platforms like Rummyculture and Pocket52, both of which have now been shut following the new law.
