The new non-Parsi chairman, CEO Natarajan Chandrasekaran who will take over from Ratan Tata who has been acting as the interim today as the interim chairman. Chandra, as he is fondly called by his friends and close associates, Natarajan Chandrasekaran was born in 1963 in an orthodox Tamil Brahmin family in Mohanur. His father Mr. Srinivasan Natarajan was a farmer. Even, Chandrasekaran tried his hand at farming for few months before realizing that it is not something he can do. After that, he started to concentrate on education.

Chandra did schooling from Namakkal and later took admission in the prestigious Coimbatore Institute of Technology from where he completed B. Sc. in Applied Sciences. Later, he went to Regional Engineering College, Trichy (Now, National Institute of Technology, Trichy) to do Masters in Computer Application (MCA). He joined Tata Consultancy Services in 1987. Since then, he remained with TCS and was known a person having penchant for innovation and re-invention. Whether working as software developer or later as a business executive, his approach remained the same – to follow the culture of customer centricity and aim for long term relationship with customers.

In his career, he has got hundreds of prestigious awards and recognitions. He was appointed director by RBI on its board. He has also got many ‘Best CEO’ awards. He has plethora of honorary degrees and has also served as the Chairman of NASSCOM in 2012. He became executive director of TCS on 6 September 2007. Earlier in 2002, he took over the role as head of global sales at TCS. He served as the non-executive chairman of TCS e-Serve Ltd, formerly known as, Citigroup Global Services Ltd and served as its Director since 31 December 2008.

Chandrasekaran has been CEO and managing director (MD) of TCS since 6 October 2009. Before that he served as the chief operating officer at the firm. He has been chairman and additional director of CMC Ltd since 17 October 2014. He also served as the chairman and member of executive council at

National Association of Software and Service Companies till 8 April 2013. He has been non-official director of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) since 5 March 2016. He has been additional director of Tata Sons Ltd since 25 October 2016.

Appointed as the Chairman of Tata Sons– a 130 billion conglomerate on January 12, 2017 for his exemplary leadership. While appointing him as the chairman a statement issued by Tata Sons said, “Chandrasekaran has demonstrated exemplary leadership as the chief executive officer and managing director of TCS. We believe he will now inspire the entire Tata Group to realise its potential, acting as leaders in their respective businesses, always in keeping with our value system and ethics and adhering to the practices of the Tata Group which have stood it in good stead.
Wife and Family of N. Chandrasekaran Chandra is married to Lalitha. The couple has only son named Pranav Chandrasekaran. They are living in Mumbai in their lavish sea facing apartment named Sagar Darshan.
