Wooplr, a Bengaluru-based mobile fashion discovery and shopping platform, on Wednesday said the company has raised $5 million in a Series A funding round led by Helion Ventures. The funds will be used to hire talent and expand the team. Rahul Chandra, co-founder and managing director, Helion Ventures, will join Wooplr’s Board.
The Wooplr app, released in December 2013, helps people decide where and what to buy based on their interests, location and social circle. It gives the user a personalised feed of curated fashion products. It also enables users, of whom 80% are women, to share fashion inspirations and the latest trends on the go.
“Wooplr’s offering is well-timed with the rapidly increasing demand for solutions in m-commerce that brings together both, online and offline retailers on a common platform,” said Helion’s Chandra.
The company was founded by Arjun Zacharia, Soumen Sarkar, Praveen Rajaretnam and Ankit Sabharwal. It had earlier raised $225,000 from a group of angel investors including Rahul Khanna, Sunil Kalra, Vivek Pandit and Jaspreet Bindra.
