The Sona Comstar inheritance saga took a dramatic turn this week as Rani Kapur sought a UK probe into the death of her son. The official complaint highlighted the “mysterious circumstances” surrounding the death of Sunjay Kapur and appealed for urgent intervention by British law enforcement. She also claimed to have “credible and concerning evidence” that there had been a “transnational conspiracy” leading to the “murder” of her son.
Battle over Rs 30,000 crore legacy
Billionaire Sunjay Kapur passed away in June after suffering a heart attack while playing polo in London — plunging several members of his family into an inheritance dispute. The high-stakes battle over his Rs 30,000 crore legacy escalated last week after his mother Rani Kapur insisted that she was the legal heir and accused unnamed individuals of trying to take control of the family legacy.
Rani Kapur had previously issued a statement alleging that the incident was being mislabeled as a cardiac arrest. She claimed that the facts pointed to something “far more troubling” without divulging additional details. Kapur also said she was coerced into signing certain documents under distress soon after the death of her son.
‘Murder, conspiracy, fraud’
‘”There are compelling reasons to believe his death may have been facilitated or orchestrated as part of a coordinated transnational conspiracy, with the involvement of individuals and entities in the United Kingdom, India and maybe the United States,” NDTV quoted the letter as saying.
She also claimed to have ‘credible evidence’ to suggest that the death of Sunjay Kapur had not been accidental or natural. The letter to UK authorities suggested that it may have “involved foul play, including possibility of murder, abetment, conspiracy, fraud, and forgery”.
According to an ANI report quoting sources, the matter is also being monitored by authorities in the United States since Kapur was a US national.
