Samples from three varieties of Maggi tested by the Kerala Food Safety Department were found to have lead within permissible limits. Joint Commissioner (Food Safety) D Asharafudeen said the Maggi extra delicious noodles sample was found to have lead content of 0.42 parts per million (PPM), Maggi 2-Minutes noodles .09 PPM and Maggi Oats noodles .07 PPM. However, the Bakers Association of Kerala has decided to stop sale of noodles of all brands for the time being. As a result, over 20,000 bakeries in Kerala have decided to stay away from selling noodles till the controversy clears.
