Larsen and Toubro has secured a large contract from Adani Power for the construction of eight thermal power plants. Each thermal power plant would be of a capacity of 800 MW, taking the total capacity to 6,400 MW. 

The order includes design, manufacturing, and commissioning of turbine generator packages along with the associated auxiliaries, mechanical and electrical systems. 

The order could be worth Rs 15,000 crore, as it falls under the company category of Ultra-Mega order category, which denotes the order with a value of upwards of Rs 15,000 crore. 

Subramanian Sarma, Deputy Managing Director and  President of L&T, said that this project marks another chapter in the long-standing association between L&T and Adani Power, combining L&T’s unmatched engineering and execution capabilities with Adani’s vision of delivering dependable and efficient energy to millions of households and industries across India.

L&T vertical with specialised expertise to execute order

L&T said that the mega order will be executed by L&T Energy CarbonLite Solutions, a specialised business vertical of the company for advanced power and low-carbon technologies.

“LTECLS is uniquely positioned to integrate deep expertise in engineering, manufacturing and project execution, with a strong focus on delivering solutions for power and low-carbon processes,” Sarma said

He added that its in-house capabilities are further enhanced through collaborations with global leaders in engineering and manufacturing.

Renewable energy order

Earlier last week, L&T’s renewable energy business vertical, L&T Renewables, received an order for developing a 116 MW solar power plant in Bihar. The company said that the order is valued between Rs 1,000 crore to 2,500 crore. 

Further, the company will also be responsible for integrating the solar power plant with a 241 MWh Battery Energy Storage System. 

L&T and Adani Power share price 

L&T’s share price went up 1.79 per cent after receiving the order from Adani Power. The company’s stock closed at Rs 3672 on Monday. 

Adani Power’s share gained 3.48 per cent on Monday, closing at Rs 597.
