Banks across India will remain closed on multiple days in August 2025 due to regional festivals, public observances and regular weekend breaks. Here is the list of all the bank holidays for August 2025 according to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

Banks across India will remain closed for 15 days, depending on the state and regional calendar. While bank branches will stay shut on these days, customers can continue to access digital banking services including UPI, net-banking, mobile apps and ATMs as usual.

Weekend Closures: Sundays and Second/Fourth Saturdays

Banks will remain closed on all Sundays and the designated second and fourth Saturdays, accounting for approximately seven days of closures in August. In addition, banks will be closed on seven more days due to major festivals such as Raksha Bandhan/Jhulana Purnima, Independence Day/Parsi New Year (Shahenshahi), Janmashtami, Krishna Jayanthi, Ganesh Chaturthi, among others.

National Holiday on 15 August

On 15 August, the banks will be closed across all Indian states marking Independence Day, a national holiday. Additionally, Gujarat and Maharashtra will observe Parsi New Year (Shahenshahi).

When is the bank holiday in July 2025? List of regional bank holidays

Aug 8 and Aug 13: Banks to remain shut in parts of Odisha, Sikkim, and Manipur

Banks in Gangtok, Sikkim will be closed on August 8, Friday in observance of Tendong Lho Rum Faat.

On Wednesday, August 13, for Patriot’s Day celebrations, Banks will be closed in Imphal, Manipur only.

August 9: Banks to shut for Raksha Bandhan

On Saturday, August 9, several states will observe Raksha Bandhan and Jhulana Purnima. Bank branches in Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Dehradun, Jaipur, Kanpur, Lucknow, and Shimla will remain closed. However, since the festival falls on the second Saturday, banks across these states will be closed as part of the routine weekend holiday.

August 16: Not a routine Saturday closure, but banks to remain shut in these states

Banks in several states will remain closed on Saturday, August 16, for Janmashtami. This includes Ahmedabad, Aizwal, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Gangtok, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Lucknow, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Srinagar and Vijayawada. Some states also recognise Parsi New Year on this date. 

However, it is important to note that August 16 is not a second or fourth Saturday, so banks in the states not mentioned above will remain open.

Regional closures in Tripura and Assam on Aug 19 and Aug 25

Banks in Agartala will remain closed on Tuesday, August 19, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur.

Banks in Guwahati, Assam, will remain closed on Friday, August 25, due to the observance of Tirubhav Tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva.

August 27–28: Bank to remain shut due to Ganesh Festival 

Banks in Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji and Vijayawada will shut on August 27 (Wednesday) for Ganesh Chaturthi

Next day on August 28, The bank will remain shut for the second day of the festival and Nuakhai, a harvest festival but only in Bhubaneswar, Odisha and Panaji, Goa.

Plan ahead, Digital services remain unaffected

Across India, banks will remain closed for 15 days in August 2025, depending on regional holiday observances. This total includes six to seven weekends and eight to nine festival-related holidays specific to various states.

With multiple long weekends and state-specific holidays, The customers are advised to plan essential banking activities in advance. Online and mobile banking channels will remain functional, but branch-level services will be unavailable on holiday dates.
