The government on Friday made it mandatory for importers of certain products exclusively used for solar energy projects to register on the renewable energy equipment import monitoring system.
These products include toughened (tempered) safety glass and photosensitive semiconductor devices, including photovoltaic cells.
The same will apply for which other items?
The same will also apply for imports of certain items having end-use in the wind energy sector or wind-operated electricity generation. Such items include towers, bearing housings, gears and gearing.
The import policy conditions of these items will come into effect from November 1, according to the notification by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT).
What did the DGFT say?
The DGFT further said that the policy condition will apply to imports through air cargo, sea cargo, and land route.
Applications for registration must be submitted at least two days in advance for air cargo, five days in advance for sea and land route shipments. According to the notification, the registration will remain valid for a period of three months and each registration will be specific to a designated seaport, airport or land port.
The REEIMS will also include a provision for the importer to declare the intended end-use of the imported products/components for the above mentioned items.
