Amid several cases of dengue being reported across India, Uttar Pradesh, the most populous state in the country said that it was on high alert to control this vector-borne disease.

According to news reports, Deputy CM of Uttar Pradesh Brajesh Pathak said that there is no serious concern in regards to Dengue. He assured that the administration is alert about the situation and it is being monitored on a day-to-day basis. There are beds that have been reserved for patients and blood is available in sufficient quantity.

Dengue cases have been on rise since June this year. Uttar Pradesh and New Delhi have seen several cases and have been on alert since then. Based on recent data, there have been 406 instances of dengue reported in Uttar Pradesh during this year exclusively.

Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak has said that officials’ leaves have been revoked, emphasising that there is an ample supply of hospital beds, and individuals in need of hospitalisation will receive admission.

The fluctuating weather patterns have triggered an epidemic of the infectious viral illness in Uttar Pradesh, resulting in a surge in sick individuals overwhelming the district hospital, as reported by a physician.

Hospitals in Delhi also reported several cases of dengue. A report said a 38-year-old woman suffering from dengue died in the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in the national capital on September 17. This was reportedly the fourth death case of a dengue patient at the hospital.

A NDTV report quoting Dr Avi Kumar, senior consultant, pulmonology at Fortis Escorts Hospital in Okhla said that the recent dengue patients are witnessing severe symptoms. Timely diagnosis and medical attention is crucial, he suggested. A particularly aggressive strain is causing the severe current dengue outbreak.

While all possible measures are being taken by the administration of both the states, Dr Avi emphasizes the necessity of differentiating dengue from other illnesses. He suggests consulting a medical care provider in case of high fever, severe headache, joint pain or rash.
