Uber has introduced its eco-friendly service, Uber Green, in Bengaluru, providing residents with the option to book sustainable rides in electric vehicles (EVs). The maiden Uber Green vehicles were inaugurated by Karnataka IT minister Priyank Kharge at the Bengaluru Tech Summit 2023.
Uber Green will now be available in various parts of the city, including central Bengaluru, with plans to expand its service to more locations in India’s startup capital. Beginning Thursday, riders in the city will find the Uber Green option on their apps.
Commenting on the launch, Kharge said, “Improving air quality in Bengaluru is our collective responsibility. This launch by Uber endorses our commitment to a green summit. We have taken tangible steps that pave the way for impactful and meaningful changes in the long run and foster a culture of sustainability.”
Uber India president Prabhjeet Singh emphasised the company’s dedication to sustainability. He mentioned that Bengaluru is the second city in India, following Mumbai, to experience the eco-friendly service.
“In the Initial days, the wait time for green rides might be higher owing to higher demand. But we aim to reduce this considerably as the service expands,” Singh added.
