TVS Motor announces India’s 1st electric two-wheeler racing championship

TVS Motor Company has announced the launch of India’s first electric two-wheeler racing championship, titled ‘TVS Racing Electric One Make Championship’. The first round will have eight hand-picked participants, who will ride the newly-launched TVS Apache RTE (Racing Throttle Electric) motorcycles, developed solely for the championship.

“With a growing uptick in the adoption of EVs globally, the company has taken a bold leap with the foray of e-OMC, an exclusive format for racing on the electric Apache RTE race motorcycles,” said Sudarshan Venu, MD, TVS Motor Company.

The key technologies behind the TVS Apache RTE include highest power-to-weight in its class, with a liquid cooled motor and high-efficiency liquid-cooled motor controller.

Besides, it will have a high-power cells battery pack with advanced chemistry, carbon fibre battery case that also acts as a stressed member of the chassis and custom-built advanced battery management system, with race-special algorithms for several advanced configuration controls and high levels of safety, among others.

Heating up competition in two-wheeler electric vehicle (EV) space, TVS Motor Company had last month unveiled its second e-scooter after iQube and the company’s first cross-over electric scooter, christened TVS X, targeted at youth across the globe.

TVS had invested `250 crore on developing the project and the product. The company plans to produce 100 vehicles per day or 30,000 units per year. It will be rolled out in phases from Q4 in 15 cities.
