According to Cointelegraph, the Italian Data Protection Authority (IDPA) released a statement on January 29, 2024, mentioning that OpenAI is in breach of its data protection and privacy laws.
Sources revealed that after the IDPA’s “fact-finding activity,” it found that OpenAI’s artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot ChatGPT does not adhere to provisions contained in the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation.
It is believed that regulators in Italy drew criticism for its ChatGPT ban. Reportedly, a few weeks after its initial clampdown, it said it would lift the ban as long as OpenAI met several transparency measures.
Furthermore, on April 29, 2023, the AI chatbot was once again available in Italy. However, Italy has been monitoring the situation surrounding AI development and implementation, concluded Cointelegraph.
