According to Cointelegraph, federal appeals court in New Orleans is considering a proposal that would mandate lawyers to confirm whether they utilised artificial intelligence (AI) programs to draft briefs. It is believed that the new proposal will be able to provide independent human review of AI-generated text accuracy or no AI reliance in their court submissions.
With insights from a notice issued on November 21, 2023, the Fifth US Circuit Court of Appeals will be focusing on governing the utilisation of generative AI tools, including OpenAI’s ChatGPT, by lawyers presenting before the court, Cointelegraph added.
The suggested regulation are expected to be applied to attorneys and litigants without legal representation appearing before the court. The regulation is expected confirm that if an AI program was employed in producing a filing.
Furthermore, the introduction of the proposed rule coincided with judges nationwide addressing the swift proliferation of generative AI programs, such as ChatGPT, Cointelegraph concluded.
