Under the Rs 10,000 crore IndiaAI mission, the ministry of electronics and IT (MeitY) will soon float a request for proposal (RFP) to create data sets platform. The IndiaAI data sets platform will be a one-stop location wherein anonymised, non-personal data provided by government and private organisations will be made available to Indian startups, researchers and academia to train their AI models.
Post the tender, the selected operator will be responsible for creating the platform with features such as real-time data sharing via application interface (APIs), AI software libraries, AI models, data annotation service, data visualisation engine, among others, according to officials.
Details on how much the government is earmarking on creating the AI data ecosystem in the country were not immediately available. So far, of the Rs 10,000-crore IndiaAI mission, the government has set aside about Rs 5,000 crore to create compute infrastructure and about Rs 2,000 crore for funding deeptech startups.
The AI data ecosystem involves a national data governance policy, national data management policy, and IndiaAI data sets platform.
The data management office, which will be set up in MeitY, will look at all the aspects related to standardisation of data sets, classification, rules and regulations around data sharing, and retention of data. There will be data management units as well that will assist ministry in management of data over its lifecycle, compliance against data collection, storage and access, data analysis, inter-government data sharing, etc.
Lately, a working group set up by MeitY recommended the monetisation of non-personal data held by government departments and ministries through India data sets platform.
