Genesys International, a mapping company, and Survey of India (SOI), a national surveying and mapping authority, have joined forces to develop India’s map content.

According to an official release, this partnership aims to create Digital Twins of major cities and towns, leveraging Genesys’ navigable maps, the Genesys constellation of sensors and SOI’s CORS network which allows for real-time positioning of data. From what it’s understood, the collaboration has introduced the India Map Stack initiative, synergising Genesys’ expertise with SOI’s technical infrastructure, delivering data layers such as 3D data, Digital Terrain Models (DTM), Digital Surface Models (DSM), and ortho imagery. It’s believed that this dataset enables creation of urban representations.

Reportedly, highlights of the collaboration include Genesys generating Geospatial 3D Digital Twins for major Indian cities and towns, SOI providing CORS datasets to Genesys, SOI offering administrative boundaries of major Indian cities and towns, Genesys and SOI collaborating on the urban 3D Data Model, Genesys acquiring geospatial datasets using surveying equipment and ground validations, Genesys licensing its geospatial data products to end-users in a “Content-as-a-Service” model, efforts made to apprise city administrations of the utility of geospatial datasets through technical workshops, and the collaboration being marked by an event attended by senior government officials and industry leaders.

“We are looking forward to joining forces with Survey of India to create a Digital Twin of Indian cities that should serve as a cornerstone for India’s development. We believe that India’s mapping authority is playing a role in the growth of this digital infrastructure,” Sajid Malik, chairman and managing director, Genesys International, stated.
