Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on Thursday to discuss enhancing bilateral relations. Modi is in Singapore for a two-day visit at Wong’s invitation.

Ahead of his talks with Lawrence Wong, PM Modi was given a ceremonial welcome at Singapore’s Parliament House, where he signed the visitor’s book. This meeting comes shortly after Wong became the new premier and Modi began his third term as prime minister.

PM Modi and Lawrence Wong also met with ministers and representatives from both countries. Modi, who arrived in Singapore on Wednesday, has a busy schedule lined up for Thursday. His visit is expected to further strengthen ties between India and Singapore.

MoU on digital technologies

MoU on Semiconductor Ecosystem between India and Singapore

  • Focuses on semiconductor cluster development and talent cultivation.
  • Facilitates Singaporean investments in India’s semiconductor sector.

MoU on Health and Medicine

  • Promotes joint research and innovation in healthcare.
  • Enhances cooperation in healthcare and pharmaceuticals, including Indian professionals in Singapore.

MoU on Educational Cooperation and Skills Development

  • Strengthens collaboration in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
  • Complements existing skill development initiatives.

Taking to his official handle on X, PM Modi expressed his delight, stating, “Happy to have met my friend, PM Lawrence Wong. Had an excellent discussion on a wide range of issues. India cherishes the friendship with Singapore.”

Wong also posted a picture of their meeting on X and welcomed PM Modi for dinner at the Istana, the official residence and office of Singapore’s president. In his post, Wong wrote, “Welcome PM Narendra Modi to Singapore! Delighted to have the chance to catch up over a meal at the Istana, before the official meetings tomorrow.”

Later in the day, PM Modi will engage in talks with Lawrence Wong, during which both countries are expected to sign several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs).

After the discussions, he along with Singapore’s Prime Minister will visit the semiconductor facility of AEM Holdings Ltd, after a lunch hosted by Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong. PM Modi will also meet with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong. His day will wrap up with a business meeting with CEOs before he heads back to New Delhi.
