Expanding upon the resounding success of its debut in August 2023, hailed as a pinnacle of global exhibitions merging cultural richness with environmental consciousness, sā returns with its second edition poised to redefine immersive art experiences.

Themed “The Future of Immersive Land Art / Immersive Land Art and the Future,” the 2024 event promises an exciting fusion of creativity, culture, and environmental stewardship. Scheduled from June 6, 2024, with preceding school workshops from June 1-5, the exhibition finds its home at the Disko Valley Bike Park nestled in the scenic landscapes of Leh, Ladakh.

Supported by the European Union National Institutes of Culture, Royal Enfield, German Embassy New Delhi, Austrian Embassy, and the Austrian Cultural Forum New Delhi, Alliance Française New Delhi, The Italian Cultural Centre New Delhi, Swiss Embassy, and Pro Helvetia New Delhi, Tsas by Dhokar, Dhoomimal Gallery, and Gallery Espace, sā aims to create a transboundary dialogue that transcends geographical and cultural boundaries.

With a thematic emphasis on “climate optimism,” sā endeavours to ignite meaningful dialogues and actions towards a sustainable future. This year’s iteration features an enriched array of site-specific art installations and sculptures meticulously crafted from locally sourced discarded, renewable, or reusable materials. Moreover, alongside awe-inspiring artworks, attendees can partake in engaging school outreach programs, curated artist film screenings by the Dharamshala International Film Festival, and groundbreaking immersive contemporary performances.

sā edition two receives prestigious backing from the European Union National Institutes for Culture 2024, securing its status as one of only 19 projects worldwide to garner such support.

The event’s diverse lineup includes acclaimed artists such as Manisha Gera Baswani, Kunzes Angmo, Tsetan Angmo, and many others, reflecting a rich tapestry of talent and creativity.

A unique collaboration with the Austrian public arts institution, museum in progress, adds an international dimension to the exhibition through their ‘raising flags’ series, featuring works by renowned artists like Minerva Cuevas, Shilpa Gupta, and Samson Kambalu. Additionally, Royal Enfield’s support for an Artist Residency dedicated to sustainable textile art underscores the event’s commitment to fostering community engagement and environmental awareness.

As sā enters its second edition, it continues to serve as an example of mindful art creation, community engagement, and environmental stewardship. Led by a visionary trio comprising Ladakhi rock climbing pioneer Tenzing ‘Jammy’ Jamyang, Austrian-Sri Lankan interdisciplinary artist Raki Nikahetiya, and Indian Spatial Designer Sagardeep Singh, sā remains dedicated to its mission of nurturing creativity while championing sustainability.

The visionary trio behind sā, symbolizing the event’s ethos of mindful art creation, community engagement, and environmental stewardship, is committed to making this edition an unforgettable experience. Raki Nikahetiya expressed their vision, stating, “sā is an ongoing proof of concept, with an attempt to mindfully create art with the limited resources at hand, understanding the carrying capacity of a region, raising awareness on climate optimism, while providing value for the community, the next generation and widening a transboundary network and dialogue – we are continuously learning together.”

Moreover, sā’s collaboration with Ladakh Arts and Media Organisation (LAMO), Disko Valley Bike Park, Local Futures, The Crashpad, Black Sheep Media House, and Pluc.TV further underscores its commitment to community engagement and sustainable practices.

The second edition of sā promises an immersive and thought-provoking experience, celebrating creativity, culture, and sustainability in the breathtaking landscapes of Leh, Ladakh. It stands as a testament to the transformative power of art in fostering positive change and inspiring collective action towards a more sustainable and harmonious future.
