In light of the increasing anti-India activities and a rise in politically-sanctioned hate crimes and criminal violence within Canada, it is of paramount importance for Indian nationals residing there or planning to visit to exercise extreme caution.

Recent developments have shown a particular focus on threats aimed at Indian diplomats and segments of the Indian community who stand against the anti-India agenda.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued an advisory on Wednesday (Sept 20, 2023) for the safety of Indian nationals, and recommended them to avoid traveling to regions and venues in Canada where such incidents have occurred.

Adding that the High Commission and Consulates General will remain in close in close contact with Canadian authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of the Indian community in Canada.

Urges Indian students to Remain alert

Given the deteriorating security situation in Canada, Indian students, in particular, are urged to exercise utmost vigilance and caution, states the advisory.

Additionally, according to the advisory Indian nationals and students currently in Canada are advised to register themselves with the High Commission of India in Ottawa or the Consulates General of India in Toronto and Vancouver.

This can be done through their respective websites or the MADAD portal at madad.gov.in. Registering will enable the High Commission and Consulates General to establish better communication with Indian citizens in Canada during any emergencies or unforeseen incidents.

In summary, the safety of Indian nationals in Canada is of paramount importance. By staying vigilant, avoiding risky areas, and registering with the appropriate authorities, we can collectively work towards ensuring the well-being of the Indian community in Canada during these challenging times.
