Jaishankar on a three day Singapore  visit to strengthen ties 

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will be on a three-day visit to Singapore from Saturday, during which he will meet the top leaders of the visiting country. This visit is to reinforce the close ties between both the nations.

During the visit, the minister will meet with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to exchange views on regional and global developments, as well as to continue discussions about the positive progress made in bilateral cooperation, according to a statement from Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“India’s EAM Dr S Jaishankar will call on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong, and Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean during his visit to Singapore,” the statement said.

He will also hold discussions with Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong, and Minister for Home Affairs and Law K Shanmugam.

On Saturday, Jaishankar will give a lecture titled “Why Bharat Matters” at the NUS Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS), which is a highlight of his visit. The lecture will dive into India’s aspirations to ascend up the global hierarchy, as well as the challenges that the nation is facing.

Furthermore, Jaishankar will meet with the Indian diaspora in Singapore on Sunday at an event hosted by the High Commission of India. This interaction is expected to strengthen relationships with the Indian community in Singapore and provide an opportunity for them to reconnect with their roots.

Jaishankar’s visit to Singapore reinforces both countries’ commitment to improving collaboration in a variety of sectors and emphasises the strategic importance of their bilateral relationship.
