Indian Army troops participating in the Joint Exercise Mitra Shakti in Sri Lanka marked India’s 78th Independence Day today with a series of patriotic and collaborative activities.

The exercise, held at the Army Training School in Maduruoya, Sri Lanka, is the 10th edition of the annual event aimed at enhancing military cooperation between India and Sri Lanka.

The day commenced with a joint yoga session, where Indian Army instructors led troops from both nations in various asanas, symbolizing unity and wellness. The Indian contingent also took part in the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign, proudly displaying the Indian tricolor at their camp, a gesture that underscored their deep respect for the national flag.

Sri Lankan Army officers and personnel joined the Indian troops for a get-together, celebrating India’s Independence Day together, further strengthening the camaraderie between the two forces. Major General UKDPP Udugama of the Sri Lanka Army acknowledged the significance of the joint exercise, emphasizing its role in building alliances and reinforcing shared values.

Throughout the exercise, the Indian Army will introduce their Sri Lankan counterparts to yoga, Indian martial arts, and other tactical skills, fostering greater interoperability. The event also featured cultural exchanges and lectures focused on tactical operations in urban environments and the use of modern technology in counter-insurgency operations.

The joint exercise, which includes various Indian Army units such as the Rajputana Rifles and specialized detachments, continues to be a platform for sharing operational experiences and strengthening military ties between India and Sri Lanka.
