In response to recent remarks by the Chinese Defence Ministry spokesperson regarding the territory of Arunachal Pradesh, India has reaffirmed its stance, dismissing these claims as absurd and baseless. Arunachal Pradesh, a state within India, is firmly regarded as an integral and inalienable part of the country.
The Indian government asserts that repeating unfounded arguments regarding Arunachal Pradesh does not lend any credibility to such claims. The region has been, is, and will always be under Indian sovereignty, with its people benefiting from various development programs and infrastructure projects initiated by the Indian government.
MEA Responds
Official Spokesperson of Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Randhir Jaiswal responding to media queries said: “We have noted the comments made by the Spokesperson of the Chinese Defence Ministry advancing absurd claims over the territory of the Indian State of Arunachal Pradesh. Repeating baseless arguments in this regard does not lend such claims any validity.”
“Arunachal Pradesh was, is and will always be an integral and inalienable part of India. Its people will continue to benefit from our development programmes and infrastructure projects.”

China Reaffirms Claim on Arunachal Pradesh Despite Indian Opposition
The Chinese military has once again asserted its claim over Arunachal Pradesh, labelling the region as an “integral part of China’s territory.” This statement comes shortly after India dismissed Beijing’s objections to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state.
Senior Colonel Zhang Xiaogang, spokesperson for the Chinese Defence Ministry, emphasized that the southern part of Xizang (Tibet) is an inherent component of China’s territory. Zhang further reiterated China’s stance of non-recognition and strong opposition to the “so-called Arunachal Pradesh illegally established by India,” as reported by official media sources.
These comments from Zhang were prompted by India’s efforts to bolster its military preparedness, including developments such as the construction of the Sela Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh, according to a report published on the Chinese Defence Ministry’s website.
Despite India’s actions and objections, China remains steadfast in its claim over Arunachal Pradesh, signalling ongoing tensions between the two neighbouring countries over territorial disputes.
