The stage is all set for the USA as Americans will elect their next president on November 5th,2024. While election campaigns have gained momentum already, a new study unveiled insights into the online gaming habits of Americans. The study includes insights into gaming preferences of audiences aligned with political figures like Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.
Until July 21st, it was assumed that the final face-off would be between the same candidates of the 2020 presidential elections, Joe Biden and Trump. But it is widely believed that due to a debate debacle and continuous questions from Democrats, Biden withdrew his name from the race and endorsed Haris as the Democratic candidate. Reportedly, the study explores whether marketing within certain gaming environments could be a strategic avenue for influencing voter behaviour and gaining new loyal supporters.
It is found in the study that, Trump’s audience typically ages over 45 and generates $150 annually, primarily on in-game purchases. They play games seven hours per week on average.Reportedly, this audience is older and politically engaged individuals who might be reached through classic and casual games like Solitaire and Candy Crush where strategic in-game advertisements or promotions could highlight Trump’s policies or campaign messages.
On the other hand, Harris’s audience typically ages between 18-34. As per the report, they are younger and more progressive and are engaged in multiplayer and social gaming environments. This audience generates $250 per player and have a strong presence in esports and streaming platforms. They play games 10 hours per week on average. It is said in the report that campaigns could leverage these platforms to create interactive experiences or sponsor events that resonate with Harris’s values.
It is said in the study that, both Trump and Harris have distinct gaming audiences that could be crucial in the 2024 election. With over 220 million gamers in the USA, the intersection of gaming and politics offers a unique opportunity to reach potential voters where they are most engaged. “ “The gaming industry presents a largely untapped frontier for political engagement. Our study shows that both Trump and Harris have substantial followings within the gaming community. By strategically placing ads or creating in-game experiences that align with their political messaging, there’s a real potential to sway undecided voters or strengthen loyalty among their existing base.” Vadim Khrulev, CEO, The Solitaire said.
