YouTube announced the plans to launch a watch page for news articles at Google for India 2023, held on Thursday in Delhi. The company claims that viewers will have a better experience and that the news section will be an interactive method to experience fresh stories in India.
As per the tech giant, the news watch page will compile a wide variety of reliable news sources from YouTube for users who wish to delve deeper into any given item. It will also assist with story exploration and content recommendations for podcasts, YouTube Shorts, live streams and video on demand. “Millions of people Indians place their trust on Youtube as they navigate online, and safeguarding that trust is our foremost responsibility. As content accelerates and tackling misinformation becomes more complex, we counter them by decreasing the bad and increasing the good. So, we partnered with news providers to power features in YouTube such as breaking news, top news. This will serve as reliable reporting for many Indian Youtube users,” Mira Chatt, head of government affairs and public policy, India, YouTube, said.
Moreover, with features such as Top News and Breaking News Shelves, the news watch page is based on the company’s years of attempts to boost credible news sources. The section will become available in 11 Indian languages, starting Q4, 2023.
According to the company ,with this launch, YouTube continues to provide users with relevant and insightful news material, all the while assisting news organisations in finding new and creative ways to interact with their audience through multi-format content.
