Weekends are all about downtime. After a week full of work to meet deadlines, everybody needs some breather to relax and recuperate. From watching a favourite web series to planning a vacation, weekends are designated as family and me time. Ravikant Sabnavis, CEO, aha! talks to BrandWagon Online about his weekends, favourite vacation destination and more.
What is the one thing you like to do when not working?
Tuning out after work is very important for me. I like to spend time with the family and read or watch a movie at home.
How do you spend your weekends?
An ideal weekend for me is usually one where I can play a round of golf with my 17-year-old daughter, who is currently playing to a lower handicap than I am. Sailing is another passion and I have found that it has a calming effect on me.
What are your favourite gadgets?
I am not a gadget freak, but I love photography and use my mobile camera to good advantage.
Given an option to choose another career, what would it be?
I mentor young startups through the TiE and CII platforms, so perhaps consulting would have been an alternate career option.
Which is your favourite vacation spot?
Cape Town, South Africa is a clear favourite. Work has taken me there multiple times and I have been fortunate to travel across some of the other parts of the country too. In India, a winter trip to Rajasthan is my first choice. I had travelled with friends a few years ago to some of the less touristy places like Bera, Narlai and Jojawar. They turned out to be hidden gems!
A TV show, a movie, and an ad campaign you highly recommend watching.
Amongst TV shows, there are many favourites, but the one that I love to watch again is Sherlock. I am a big Sherlock Holmes fan, having read & re-read Sir Conan Doyle’s works and bought merchandise at 221B Baker Street! I find both Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman very endearing in their roles.
To pick one movie is difficult, but from amongst recent movies, Kungfu Panda is a favourite. Life lessons narrated in such a simple and entertaining way!
My favourite ad campaigns are the ones for Pepsi through the 80s & 90s. They’re memorable and irreverent – from the ones featuring MC Hammer, or Cindy Crawford or closer home the “Nothing official about it” campaign during the 1996 Cricket world cup.
Another pick is the Barclays “Big” campaign featuring Sir Anthony Hopkins.
