The operator of Delhi Airport, Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) on Friday (May 31) said that it is limiting bird strikes in the airfield through a variety of mitigating measures being implemented by its wildlife hazard management team.

DIAL also held an awareness campaign in the vicinity of the airport in Rangpuri Pahari to inform the locals about the risks associated with wildlife strikes, especially those involving birds, PTI reported.

Addressing bird strike incidents in monsoon season

According to a release, Rangpuri Pahari, which is situated on runway 29L/11R’s approach route, was established to address the rising number of bird strike events that have been reported in this area, particularly during the monsoon season.

DIAL also stated that in order to reduce bird strikes on the airfield, its committed Wildlife Hazard Management (WHM) team is actively working on a number of mitigation strategies.

“Regular surveys are conducted up to a 10 kilometres radius around the airfield to identify and eliminate bird attractants in coordination with civic agencies,” it added.
