An Air India Express flight from Vijayawada to Bengaluru was cancelled on Thursday, September 4, after the aircraft suffered a bird strike during taxiing, an airline official confirmed.
The incident occurred when an eagle struck the nose of the plane as it was preparing for take-off. “The bird hit happened before take-off, when the aircraft was taxiing on the runway,” the official told PTI.
As a safety precaution, the airline cancelled the flight and arranged alternative travel for the affected passengers.
Although the aircraft had not yet taken off, the impact was deemed serious enough to prevent the flight from continuing. The airline said passenger safety remained its top priority and stressed that precautionary cancellations are standard protocol in such circumstances.
This incident comes just days after a similar event involving an IndiGo flight from Nagpur to Kolkata. On Tuesday morning, the aircraft returned to Nagpur airport shortly after departure following a suspected bird hit. Carrying around 160 to 165 passengers, the flight was subsequently cancelled after precautionary checks.
